New trends are the order of the day. And while at Trends we are always looking for them and discovering them, there are also design ideas we like to use year after year, simply because they never go out of fashion.

Such is the case with combining different woods. Wood is, in itself, a material that is appreciated in every decorating style. It is a noble, durable, warm and neutral material.

At Trends we particularly like to use oak, walnut and olive wood, to name just a few. Wood adds a natural, cozy, bright and warm feel to spaces. One of the questions we are asked most often is: but can we combine two types of wood?

Our answer: YES, absolutely! It is no longer just about disguising the different types of wood we have at home; it has now evolved and become a trend. However, you cannot simply combine different shades or types of wood without a concept. And it is that concept that will give the space coherence.

The key lies in how to build the ‘bridge’ between one wood and another. And the solution is quite simple: transition elements. If we use decorative or accessory pieces that draw attention away from the wood itself, we can make this transition in a much more organic way. They can be pieces with a particular style but understated at the same time, so that the shades or types of wood enhance each other without looking too ornate or heavy.

Spaces as a whole should have that harmonious flow, and wood, thanks to its properties, undoubtedly has the power to bring warmth, so choosing accessories or pieces in ecru tones, for example, can bring harmony to the whole space. It is really easy to make different woods enhance one another, so we encourage you to take the plunge and try, move and rearrange your wooden furniture, or get in touch so we can try it together.
